Behavior of Some Prop. 420 Supporters is Assault on Our Election Process
October 29, 2018 by Michael Seiden
As a citizen of Scottsdale who lives against the Preserve, I am disgusted by the assault on our election process being perpetrated by supporters of Proposition 420.
In our system, both sides of an issue or candidate have the right to voice their platforms without interference from the other side. Throughout the streets and highways of Scottsdale there are signs suggesting to voters that they vote “yes” and “no” for 420, as is the right of the supporters of both sides of the issue.
However, recently signs that say “SUPPORT YOUR PRESERVE –NO 420” have had the words “NO” blacked out with paint, leaving them to read “SUPPORT YOUR PRESERVE 420.”
This is nothing less than a subversion of our electoral process.
What does this say about the supporters of Prop. 420? Both sides have a right to express their views without tampering and abuse of property. These actions are illegal and, certainly unethical. It’s too bad that cameras were not around to capture photos of those who committed these criminal acts.
If their objective was to influence my vote on this issue, it certainly did. I’m voting “no” on 420 and my vote can’t be blacked out!
